Philip Beyer, son of Michael and Marie Beyer, was born April 11, 1827, in Baden, Germany.
Desiring, as many young men did during this century, to get away from the oppressive German government ruling connected with the military training and having served his required apprenticeship, he, with his parents, and the one remaining brother, Jacob, came to America.
Louisa Scheerer, of Baden, Germany, accompanied the family and became Philip Beyer's wife, January 28, 1852. They were mar- ried on their journey here, while in New York City.
Philip Beyer died in 1900, in Naumburg.
The voyage from Baden, Germany, was a long and tiresome one, taking more than two months to complete their journey.
Excitement also came with the trip for after sixty-seven days on the water their ship struck a sand-bar which proved to be only three miles in distance, from New York harbor. Some of the passengers were obliged to remain on the ship for two or three days before they were able to be transferred by small row-boats to the landing.
After spending a few days in New York City with Martin Beyer, Michael and Marie Beyer, son Philip and his bride, Louisa Scheerer Beyer, and the other son, Jacob Beyer, proceeded to Water- town, N.Y., where they remained a week in the home of Jacob Quencer, who had previously emigrated here from Germany.
Jacob Quencer and Louisa Scheerer Beyer were own cousins.
From here they departed for Naumburg in quest of land.
