"VOLNEY H. Johnson7 (19694), b. in Hancock, N. H., Feb. 1, 1806; m. (1) Feb. 9, 1830, Eda Gould of Greenfield, N. H., who d. Sept. 29, 1853; he m (2) Dec. 20, 1854, Nancy M. Richardson of Washington, N. H. In early life he built a turning mill on Davis Brook, Hancock, "where he manufactured wooden bottles shaped like barrels. They were turned when the timber was green, and then dry heads were put in, the shrinking of the body of the bottles making them tight. After the lapse of more than sixty years some of these bottles are still in existence." He also owned the Bradford mill, and manufactured wheel-barrows and children's toys for a few years; later returned to Greenfield, in 1834 to Antrim, in 1845 to Washington and in 1860 back to Antrim. He resided a few years late in life in the village, but d. at the residence of his son in Washington, D. C., in 1879. Children:
