Mom was born in Terre Haute, In. to Herbert "Allen" and Caltha Leona Perisho Croll. She was the oldest of five children. Allene L. Croll Rush Pilipovich, John Allen Croll, Merry Lena Croll Finkbeiner and Gloria K. Croll. She grew up around the Chrisman Ill. area and married James R. Straw on June 17, 1945 after he returned from the War. They lived most of their married life in St. Bernice, In. and had 3 children, James Russell Straw, Jr., Larry Allen Straw(deceased) and Linda K. Straw Sanquenetti Hudson. They were very active in their church, the First Baptist in St. Bernice. Mom was more of a career woman and worked at Pawley lumber company in St. Bernice and Dana, In. She then went to Paris Community Hospital and worked the front desk. A lot of patients called her smiley as she always had a smile on her face. She was instrumental in getting city water and natural gas in St. Bernice, In. She was an excellent seamstress and a great cook.
She has five grandchildren, six greatgrandchildren and one great great grandchild. I pray that she rests in peace and we will meet once again in heaven and she will know who we are and have a new body as well.

Helen Beatrice Straw, went to be with her Lord and Savior Wednesday evening Dec. 21, 2011. She was born in Terre Haute, on April 22, 1927, to Herbert Allen and Caltha Perisho Croll. She was married to James Russell Straw on June 17, 1945, and they shared their love for 66 years. She was a member of St. Bernice Baptist Church until they moved to Terre Haute and became a member of Faith Baptist Church. She worked many years as a bookkeeper at Pawley Lumber Yard in St. Bernice and Dana. She then went to work at Paris Community Hospital. Helen never met a stranger and had many dear friends.. She was preceded in death by both parents; her sisters, Allene Pilipovich, Merry Finkbeiner, and Gloria Croll; and one son, Larry Allen Straw.. She is survived by her husband, James; one brother, John Croll; a son, James Jr. and wife Teresa of Clinton; and a daughter, Linda K. Hudson and husband Joe of Terre Haute; five grandchildren, Rebecca Sue Scott, Rusty Straw, Robin Lynn Harden, Gina Marie Gordon, and David Sanquenetti; six great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. today, Dec. 23, 2011, at Frist Funeral Home, 458 Blackman St., in Clinton, with services at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Jim Gibson officiating. Burial will be in Franklin Cemetery, north of Paris, Ill. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to either American Diabetes Association or Alzheimer's Association.
