Lois E. Berto, 83, Waupaca, mother of a Plainfield man, died Monday, Aug. 3, 2009.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in Waupaca, with the Revs. Jeffery Holtan and Aaron Winkleman officiating. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery in Waupaca.
Visitation will be at the Maple Crest Funeral Home in Waupaca from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday and at the church from 10 a.m. Friday until the service.
Mrs. Berto was born April 30, 1926, in the town of Lind in Waupaca County, a daughter of the late Arnold and Lorretta (Wenzel) Koplien.
She was married to Gordon Berto on Jan. 25, 1947. He died in 1991.
She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Waupaca. She was an active member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary. She had been an officer with Thrivent. She also belonged to the Waupaca County Homemakers.

Survivors include four sons, Gordon "Skip" (Robin), Plainfield, Thomas (Edith "Edie"), New London, Arnold (Helen), Sturgeon Bay, and John (Shawn), Michigan; three daughters, Donna (Larry) Hansen, Waupaca, Karen (Sanford) Straw, Waukesha, and Rhonda (Todd) Utermoehlen, Tennessee; four sisters, Ruby (Ed) Huntoon and Carol Leu, both of Waupaca, Bea (Ozzie) Anderson, Minocqua, and Jeanette (Norman) Hudziak, Wild Rose; on stepbrother, Bill (Debra) Shanklin, Iola; one stepsister, Dorothy Rusch, Stevens Point; 17 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by one son, Kenneth; her stepfather, Walter "Coolie" Kiekhafer; and one stepbrother, Gerald Shanklin.

Lois married someone Gordon Berto on 25 Jan 1947. (Gordon Berto was born on 11 Apr 1920 and died on 18 Jan 1992 in Wisconsin.)
