MRS. UNDERWOOD DEAD
Passes Away in Denver Last Night Where She Had Gone for Treatment
Cancer of the Stomach Said to Have Been the Cause of Death— She Had Lived in Cheyenne Many Years and Had Been an Invalid for a Very Long Time— Funeral Wednesday
Mrs. Virga Underwood, wife of A. Underwood of this city, died last night…
…Mr. Underwood was with his wife at her death…telegram to W. D. Pease, her brother.
The children, Miss Clara and Master Homer, were at once informed of the loss of their mother, and the business house in this city was immediately closed out of respect for the deceased. The remains will reach here from Denver this evening…body to Underwood residence…
Mrs. Virga Underwood resided in Cheyenne for many years and was loved by all who knew her. For 6 or 7 years past she suffered greatly, and the skill of physicians appeared to benefit her but little. She bore her suffering with great fortitude.
…Miss Clara is 20 years; Homer about 14 years. A sister of the deceased resides in Denver.
Mrs. Underwood was a lovable and loving Christian woman whose death will be mourned by hundreds in this city. She had suffered greatly but she shall suffer no more.

Mrs. Underwood was 43 years of age on the 3rd day of August last…came to Cheyenne in 1869 and for 2 years officiated as bookkeeper in the store of her brother, W. D. Pease. She then became the wife of A. Underwood, who survives her and whose head is lowered in grief today…two children weeping at their mother's loss…
…before the Congregational Church was built here she was organist for three denominations which held services in the school house then located opposite the court house. She was always an active Sabbath school worker.
…for the past 6 years her illness would not permit of her doing the work she desired to do…
…she was at the homeopathic hospital in Denver…here for the first time it was found that she had cancer of the stomach and could not survive.
