Dr. Max Mayo Miller
Dr. Max Mayo Miller, 88, died at 6:50 P.M., Thursday, April 1, 2004 at his home in Lake Charles, LA. He was born on July 30, 1915 in Drexel, MO to Dr. Max Mayo Miller and Fauna White Miller. He moved with his parents at an early age to Arkansas City, KS. He graduated from Arkansas City High School in Arkansas City, KS, Northwestern University in Evanston, IL, and Northwestern University Medical School in Chicago, IL. He completed his internship and residency at Charity Hospital in New Orleans. In 1943 he move to Lake Charles, LA and opened his medical practice in Obstetrics and Gynecology. He practiced medicine for more than 50 years. He was a member of the Calcasieu Parish Medical Society, the Louisiana State Medical Society, and the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology. He served on the Board of Directors of Lakeside National Bank and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. He had a passion for flying and served as an FAA medical examiner for many years. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Bonds Miller of Lake Charles; three sons, Dr. Michael Miller and his wife Nancy of Knoxville, TN; Dr. Martin Miller and his wife Kathy, and Dr. Mark Miller of Lake Charles; two daughters, Marilyn Grissett and her husband David of Enid, OK, and Margie Standerfer and her husband Butch of Kingwood, TX; one brother, Dr. William H. Miller of Coeur d,Alene, ID; twelve grandchildren, Bill Fournet and his wife Christy and Todd Grissett of Tulsa, OK, Allison Wilcox and her husband Jeff of Overland Park, KS, John Standerfer and his wife Julie and Mark Standerfer of Austin, TX, Matt, Drew, and Todd Miller of Knoxville, TN, Lee, Patty, Alyce, and Max Miller of Lake Charles, LA; and six great-grandchildren, Holden Grissett and Douglas, David, and John Fournet of Tulsa, OK and Katherine and Emily Wilcox of Overland Park, KS. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Dr. Ted Miller, and a son Max Mayo Miller, Jr.
A family memorial service will be held at a later date. Johnson Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements. In lieu of flowers the family has requested that memorial donations be made to the charity of one's choice.
