Family of West Brooksville, Maine, Compiled by Ethel K. Lord (1957) Unpublished ....From the notes of Ethel Lord
"July 7, 1973. At Concord, N.H. Historical Society "Families of Gosport" at the Isles of Shoals 1715-1876 comp. from church records by Louise Tallman.
In this work she states that Jeremiah Lord m. (2) about 1768 Mary Talpey Dickey (sister of his first wife Elizabeth Talpey Lord), and says she had been married on 15 July 1765 to James Hickey (sic) and had a son James bp Nov 1765, and that she seperated from him soon after her son was born. Mrs. Tallman also says Mary Dickey Lord was mother of Richard Lord b. 1769 and Sarah Lord b. 1774.
But this cannot be so, because Elizabeth Talpey Lord was still alive and married to Jeremiah Lord in 1793, and was the mother of all of his children.
In the will of Richard Talpey (father of Elizabeth and Mary) dated 2 April 1793, he omits the name of dau. Mary Talpey Hickey (sic) but 'gives to James Hickey (sic) the son of my son-in-law James Hickey (sic) 20 shillings.' He gives 'to my dau. Elizabeth Lord, wife of Jeremy Lord 20 shillings.' Note the date 1793. Note Richard Talpey omits the name of his dau. Mary in his will.
In the Penobscot Town Records the names of Molly & Margaret, children of Jeremiah and Elizabeth Lord are omitted, it can be assumed they had died, and of course the eldest dau. Elizabeth was married to Jacob Bowden. The Mary Talpey given as wife of Jeremiah Lord in the Pen. Town Records could have been a sister of Elizabeth and married him after Elizabeth's death, but we do not know when Elizabeth died. Or the writer of the Penob. T.R. could have assumed his housekeeper was mother of his children. Jeremiah Lord d. 1820, so could have married (2) Mary Talpey Hickey (sic), but she was not the mother of his children. Nor was she mentioned in her father's will of 1793, though her son was mentioned, presumably inheriting his mother's portion."
