Find A Grave Memorial# 129966646 ~0bit~Delmar S. S. Straw 67, died here at his home Monday evening, June 15, 1942, at 6:20 after an extended illness. Mr. Straw was born at Quasqueton, May 5, 1875, the son of John Solomon and Caroline Shuey Straw, and except for year in Illinois, had lived in Buchanan county all of his life, most of the time in Independence. He was married here to Miss Rose Funk on November 29, 1931, who survives him. Other survivors include seven sons: Reo, Cedar Rapids; Ralph, Roy, Raymond, Ranzie, Reuben, all of Independence; R. E. of Fort Riley, Kansas; two daughters, Mrs. Henry Necker, Independence and Mrs. Ruth Blumenshine, Independence; and three sisters, Mrs. Lillie Starr, of Troy Mills; Mrs. Sarah Turies, of Minneapolis; Mrs. Mabel Lotts, of Independnce; one half sister, Mrs. Emma Sherrets; one brother, John, Oelwein, and 23 grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. today (Thursday) in the Four Square Gospel church, conducted by the pastor, Rev. Virginia Wilhite, preceded by prayer at 1:30 at the home. Burial was in Hoover Cemetery [aka Circle Grove Cemetery], two miles southeast of Quasqueton. Pallbeares were six sons of the deceased. The body was taken to the Peoples Funeral Home, then later to the home until time for the funeral.
