www.findagrave.com Herald, 1923 Death of J.W. Cairns - John Wesley Cairns died at his home in Weimar Saturday, June 23 of double pneumonia. He was one of the pioneers of Colorado, going to Golden and Central City, shortly after his arrival in America, from his boyhood home in the Isle of Man. He owned and edited the Golden Transcript for years, and was actively identified in the history of the Silver State, along with Henry M. Teller, Ed Wolcott, Dave Moffatt, and others. He saw Denver grow from a few tents, to a beautiful modern city. When President Grant visited throughout the states, Mr. Cairns was one of the committee to receive him. A sidewalk of silver bricks were laid over the original sidewalk into the Central City Hotel. A trip to his home in the Isle of Man was his aim in July. He is survived by a brother and sister, nephews and nieces in the Isle of Man, and a daughter, Mrs Edith Kennedy and grandson, David Kennedy in Weimar. Funeral services were held in Colfax Monday, Rev. Schaeffer of Auburn officiating.
John married Ann Kennish, daughter of William Kennish and Catherine Callow, on 16 Oct 1875 in Golden, Jefferson County, Colorado. (Ann Kennish was born on 15 Jul 1850 in Isle of Man and died on 26 Sep 1920 in Weimar, Placer County, California.)
