Eugene Kennish, 86, of Wiggins, formerly of Arvada, died suddenly Friday in Fort Morgan. Survivors include two children Verna Jean LePore of Mesa, AZ, and Bert Kennish of Castle Rock; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Tuesday at the Heer & Jolliffe Mortuary Chapel in Ft. Morgan. Interment followed in Memory Gardens. Family suggests that in lieu of flowers or donations, take a friend to lunch and tell them you love them

Eugene Kennish, 86, of Wiggins died Friday at the Colorado Plains Medical Center in Fort Morgan.
Kennish was born Oct. 23, 1916, in Wiggins. He attended school at Orchard, Cedaredge and graduated from Wiggins High School. After graduation and during the Great Depression he and two friends hoboed through 38 states.
He married Hazel Lowe Kennish on July 29, 1937. They lived in Orchard and later moved to Wiggins where they operated a truck line for a number of years. In the construction business, he worked on the Panama Canal until the Pearl Harbor attack after which time he went into the U.S. Army and served as a military policeman in occupied Japan for two years.
From 1946-1970 the family lived in Fort Morgan where they operated a land leveling and dam building business for 25 years. The Kennishes lived in Wray for several years, continuing the construction business and eventually moved to Arvada where they began a fun and successful woodworking business, Today's Treasure-Tomorrow's Heirlooms, which they continued until Mrs. Kennish's death in 1988. Eugene Kennish lived with Dorothy Ledford for the past 13 years in Wiggins. They have continued the woodworking business.
Kennish became a member of the Masonic Lodge A.F. & A.M. in Celina, Tenn., in 1943 and later in the Denver Blue Lodge, where he became a 32nd degree Mason.
Survivors include two children, Verna Jean LePore of Mesa, Ariz., and Bert Kennish of Castle Rock; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, one brother, two sisters and his parents.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the Heer & Jolliffe Mortuary Chapel. Interment will follow in Memory Gardens. A reception will follow the interment service at the Country Steak Out. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers or donations, take a friend to lunch and tell him or her you love them
