Carl Maurice "Maury" Smith, 92, of Tiffin, passed away, Monday morning December 19, 2011 at St. Francis Home, Tiffin.On April 30, 1919 in Upper Sandusky, Ohio, he was born to Forest S. and Blanche (Hottman) Smith. He married Pauline I. Hines on February 3, 1946 at the Lutheran Church in Upper Sandusky, Ohio.
Survivors include two sons, Jeff (Fran) Smith and Randy (Michelle) Smith, both of Tiffin, OH; two daughters, Alice Smith of Tiffin, OH and Joy (Dan) Stevens of Grandville, MI; nine grandchildren; six step-grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Pauline in 2007 and three sisters, Millie, Gladys and Florence.
Maury was a 1937 graduate of Upper Sandusky High School and a 60 year member of the First Lutheran Church, Tiffin. He was an assembler at National Machinery for 26 years, retiring in 1981. He was a member of the National Machinery Quarter Century Club. He was also a member of the new life support club and a member of the American Heart Association of Seneca County. Maury was in the United States Army during WWII from 1941-1945. He received the Silver Star, Bronze Star, Good Conduct Medal, Combat and Infantry Badge, American Victory Medal, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with Bronze star and the Distinguished Unit Citation with Oak leaf cluster.
Maury was an avid golfer and enjoyed camping and playing cards. He also enjoyed going to the Tiffin Bake Shop and Jolly's.
funeral service will be Thursday, December 22, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. at the First Lutheran Church, Tiffin with Pastor Ken Gillikin officiating. Burial will follow in Old Mission Cemetery, Upper Sandusky, OH.
Friends may visit with the family on Wednesday, December 21, 2011 from 4-8:00 P.M. at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home & Crematory, 236 S. Washington St., Tiffin, Ohio 44883, (419) 447-2424 and on Thursday, December 22, 2011 from 10-11:00 A.M. in the Dietz room at First Lutheran Church, Tiffin. The United Veterans Council will conduct military honors at 6:45 P.M. and members of the National Machinery Quarter Century Club will meet in body at 7:00 P.M. on Wednesday.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, First Lutheran Church, Tiffin or WWII Veterans of Southwest Pennsylvania Memorial Fund, P. O. Box 23143, Pittsburgh, PA 15222-6143.
