Son of James Athay and Ellen Morris, husband of Ellen Price.
Henry Athay (by Edna Straw)
Henry Athay, eldest son of James and Ellen Morris Athay, was born June 25, 1858, in London, England. When five years old he came to America with his parents and suffered the hardships of a long voyage and also the trek across the plains. As he grew older he learned to work on his father's farm and to be obedient and hoest. When he reached manhood he went to the Logan Temple sawmill in Temple Fork Canyon, where he helped get rock for the Logan Temple. He worked there for seven years.
On October 2, 1884, Henry and Ellen Price were married in the Logan Temple. Four children were born to them; Edna, Matilda, Elzo, and Russell. Matilda and Russell died when about three years old.
Henry bought some land and commenced farming with a team of horses. He cultivated the ground and sowed the seed by hand. He and others went to the canyon in the winter and stayed for two weeks cutting down large trees. Some would be taken to the sawmill of Grandfather Robert Price to be sawed into lumber and some would be hauled home where Father would saw and chop them up for firewood by hand.
Henry had a team and wagon ready to haul the men to their secret higing place when the United States marshals were hunting them.
Henry was a ward teacher for many years, a high priest, and a life member of the Genealogical Society. He was a staunch Latter-day Saint and a kind and loving husband and father. He died September 2, 1936, at Paris, Idaho, and was buried in the Paris Cemetery.
