GRANTS PASS, Ore. \emdash James Edward Straw Sr., age 71, of Grants Pass, Ore., died Wednesday, July 17, 2013, at Highland House Nursing and Rehabilitation.
A Memorial Service with Full Military Honors by the U.S. Air Force Honor Guard will be held 2 p.m. on Tuesday, July 23rd., at Chapel of the Valley \endash L.B. HALL FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY.
Mr. Straw was born Oct. 7, 1941, in Ashtabula, Ohio. A Veteran, he joined the U.S. Air Force and served for 20 years, retiring in 1978. He married the former Sharon Slife on May 14, 1963, in Warren, Ohio. They moved to Grants Pass in 1985 from Vacaville, Calif.
His interests included fishing, golfing, classic cars, and NASCAR racing.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon Straw of Grants Pass, Ore.; two sons, James E. Straw Jr. of Pagosa Springs, Co., and Sean Straw of Grants Pass, Ore.; two daughters, Cheryl Degener and Kimberly Power, both of Grants Pass, Ore.; his mother, Betty Straw of Jefferson, Ohio; a brother, Charles Straw of Newport News, Va.; 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

James married Sharon Elizabeth Slife, daughter of Douglas Manning Slife and Eva Mae Pennington, on 14 May 1963 in Warren, Ohio. (Sharon Elizabeth Slife was born on 21 Aug 1943 in Greenville, Mercer County, Pennsylvania and died on 3 Aug 2013 in Grants Pass, Josephine County, Oregon.)
