ERNEST "KURLEY" ARTHUR KARLSON After a brief illness, Ernest "Kurley" Arthur Karlson passed away on Tuesday, July 14, 2009 in McKinney, Texas. He was born in Concord, Massachusetts. He entered the Army in April 1941 in Jamaica, New York attending Baker's and Cooks school. He spent time in Fort Bragg, North Carolina, in the Medical Corp and was later transferred as a Tech Sergeant to Bruns General Hospital in Santa Fe, New Mexico. During later years he managed several grocery stores in the Santa Fe area. He married Marian Valdes in 1945. He is survived by his daughter, Rosina May and son-in-law, Harold L. Thomas of San Carlos, Sonora, Mexico; son, Tito Karlson and daughter-in-law, Tracey of Allen, Texas; four grandchildren: Michael S. Karlson, Amberly Gardner, Nicholas Gardner and Stephan Gardner; brother-in-law, I.W. Li of Rio Rancho, New Mexico and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marian Valdes Karlson; parents, Karl Viking Karlson and Klara Skoog; and one brother, Carl Karlson. A Memorial Service will be held in Santa Fe, New Mexico on August 7, 2009 at 10 a.m. at the Cathedral Basilica of St. Francis, with the Interment to follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery. Should friends desire memorials, the family requests donations be made to Fairview Cemetery Preservation Association, P.O. Box 5958, Santa Fe, New Mexico, 87502. Ernest was always a loving, compassionate and giving friend to everyone that he met. He will be missed by ALL. Marian Valdes Karlson's memorial will be held at the same time.
