Elaine Fern Heimgartner, 64, entered into eternal peace on Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2013, at Saint Alphonsus Hospital in Boise. Elaine was born Nov. 22, 1948, in Lewiston. She is the daughter of the late Leslie and Elsie Heimgartner. She is the sister of Ida Marie Straw of Mountain Home, Idaho, and the late Robert Heimgartner.
Elaine has lived the past six years with her care providers, Jon and Isabella Volcan of Nampa, and previously with Jim and Susan Price of Boise. Elaine enjoyed her many visits with her sister, Marie, and family. With Marie's supervision Elaine traveled to New York, Hawaii, Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise, McCall, and many trips to visit family and friends. She loved her sister very much and knew she would be spoiled when she came to visit. The special love between the sisters was obvious. She participated in bowling and swimming in the Special Olympics for many years. She enjoyed coloring, shopping, movies, crafts, Community Partnership Camp, traveling and spending time with family. She had a unique talent for remembering immediate family members' birth dates.
She is survived by her sister, Ida Marie Straw of Mountain Home sister-in-law, Beverly (Don) Breitenfeldt of Yakima nieces and nephews, Connie (Kurt) Cox of Idaho Falls, Bryan (Anita) Straw of Mountain Home, Leslie (Tonya) Heimgartner, Jerrice (Ron) Elliott of Yakima, Janice Heimgartner of Florida great-nieces and nephews, Brandi, Robert, Chealsey, Corey, Jennifer, Rhondi, and Amy. She was preceded in death by her parents grandmother, Magdalena Zumhofe brother brother-in-law, William Straw and great-nephew, Jeffery Straw.
A memorial and covered-dish meal in her honor will be held at a later date in Lewiston. Arrangements are under the direction of Rost Funeral Home, McMurtrey Chapel in Mountain Home.
Elaine will always be remembered for her infectious smile and party spirit. "Dang it!" Donations in Elaine's memory can be sent to Idaho Special Olympics, 199 E. 52nd, Garden City, ID 83714.
