Elmer A. Wickman, age 91, of New Hampton, passed away on Friday, Dec. 7, 2012, at Allen Hospital in Waterloo.
Funeral Services for Elmer have been set for 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2012, at Trinity Lutheran Church in New Hampton with Pastor Kevin Frey officiating. Burial will be at New Hampton Cemetery in New Hampton.
Visitation will be from 4 - 7 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 10, 2012, at Conway-Markham Funeral Home in New Hampton and will continue at the church one hour prior to the service on Tuesday. Elmer Albert Wickman was born on June 5, 1921, on the family farm east of New Hampton to Albert and Ida (Deetz) Wickman. He attended country school until the 8th grade and graduated from New Hampton High School in 1940. After graduating he began farming with his mother. He also worked at White Farm in Charles City for 18 years. On September 2, 1945, Elmer was united in marriage to Opal Ruby Mau at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in New Hampton. The couple made their home on the family farm where they raised their five children, Duane, Diana, David, Deborah and Denise. Elmer was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church where he served on church board. He was the president of the rural school board, served as the Secretary of the Farm Bureau Board of Directors. Elmer and Opal were active in the Chickasaw Trail Riders for several years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, BBQ's, dancing and playing cards.
Elmer is survived by his children, Duane (Kathy) Wickman of New Hampton, Diana Speltz of New Hampton, David (Lori) Wickman of Clear Lake, Deborah Christensen (Joe Erb) of Fredericksburg, Denise Straw of New Hampton, 13 grandchildren, Chris (Shelly), Mark (Beth), Brian (Stacy) and Stephanie Speltz, Chad (Libby) and Stacy Wickman; Tracy Straw; Annette (Adrian) Montano, Sara (Greg) Schmitt, Paul (Toni) Wickman, Jeff Wickman (Amanda Davis), Marea (David) Baker, Matt (Angie) Christensen, 27 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Opal Ruby, his sisters, Helena, Florence and Alice.
