STURGIS Eleanor Evangeline Straw, age 78, of Sturgis, Mich., died Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2005, at Thurston Woods Village in Sturgis following a six-year battle with leukemia.
She was born Dec. 16, 1926, in Sturgis, a daughter of Charles W. and Anna L. (Osborn) Bellaire.
On Feb. 11, 1950, she married Russell A. Straw in Goshen, Ind. He died Sept. 27, 1975.
For many years she had been employed by the Campbell's Mushroom Farm in Brighton, Ind., and she was a homemaker.
Eleanor loved her cat Tuffy and time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Surviving are a son, Terry (Jean) Straw of Vermontville, Mich.; a daughter, Connie (Dale) Morgan of Wauseon, Ohio; two grandsons, Aaron (Stacy) Straw and Scott (Melissa) Straw, both of Lansing; a granddaughter, Kristina (Ken) Hill of Adrian; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Dora Patterson of Centreville and Catherine Akin of Sturgis; two brothers, Paul W. Bellaire and Phillip D. Bellaire, both of Sturgis and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a granddaughter, Zabrina Morgan; and three sisters, Agnes Bellaire, Edith Spangle and Viola Cox.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the Hackman-Foglesong Funeral Home of Sturgis.
Funeral services celebrating the life of Eleanor E. Straw will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. The Rev. Bart Hall of the Sturgis Wesleyan Church in Sturgis will officiate. A graveside committal will follow the service at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Sturgis.
The family suggests those wishing to make a memorial donation in Mrs. Straw's memory consider the Saladine Shrine Foundation for Crippled Children. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
