Martha Floretta (Straw) Duncan, 64, of 142 St. James Ave., died Friday at Mercy Hospital. She was a nurse's aide at Municipal Hospital for several years and worked previously for an insurance agency in Jamaica, British West Indies. Born and educated in Kingston, Jamaica, she lived in Springfield for 22 years. She was a member of the Mason Square Senior Center, the Springfield Urban League and the Naomi Chapter of the Loyal Pioneers Lodge in Kingston. She leaves her husband, Dan N. Duncan of Chicago; four sons, Oliver, Michael and Leighton, all of Springfield, and Courtney of Jamaica; two step-daughters, Yasmine of Florida and Cavalle of Virginia; two brothers, Bernard of Florida and Paul of Springfield; two sisters, May of Springfield and Esmie of Jamaica; 13 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. The funeral will be Saturday morning at Harrell Funeral Home, with burial in Hillcrest Park Cemetery. Calling hours will precede the service.
