Notes for John WHIFFEN
LaManche was a couple of miles from So. Harbour, they mined Galena, a mineral from which lead and nickle is extracted. In 1920, moved to St. Johns, lived in Boarding house on either Brazil Sq or Patrick Sq - St. Patrick's his parrish. He also lived on Lime and 9 Water Street in 1923. His favorite food was corn beef and cabbage and fish and brews. He always looked young even tho he had no hair. Always went to school events, liked to go to bed at 9:30 and went to church events and daily mass. He was very quiet and his second wife (Ellen Best) never heard him say a harsh word in his life per his daughter Violet Whiffen. He was a widow when he died having outlived two wives.
