NEW BEDFORD
Lucy B. (Leonard) Mahoney, 100, died at home Friday, Feb. 4, 2000. She was the widow of Francis C. Mahoney and daughter of the late Thomas J. and Johanna (Moore) Leonard. Born in New Bedford, she was raised in St. Leonard's, Newfoundland, returning to New Bedford in 1915. She attended Fitchburg Normal School and graduated from St. Luke's Hospital School of Nursing in 1921. She was a communicant of St. Lawrence Church. Mrs. Mahoney was a registered nurse who worked as a visiting nurse and home nursing instructor. Mrs. Mahoney was a member of the Guard of Honor Society of St. Lawrence Church, the Helpers of the Holy Souls, and the St. Luke's Alumni Association. She was awarded the Marian Medal from the Diocese of Fall River on Dec. 7, 1990. She enjoyed crocheting.
She is survived by a son, the Rev. Francis L. Mahoney, pastor of Holy Name Church in Fall River; two daughters, Marie M. Fitzgerald of South Dartmouth, and Louise Whelton of Wayland; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was the mother of the late Anne C. Francis. Her funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. tomorrow in St. Lawrence Church; burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. Arrangements are by the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St.
