DEVEREAUX, Jean Elizabeth - 66, Halifax, wife of Vincent Devereux, passed away peacefully following a lengthy illness, in Melville Lodge on Monday, November 6, 2006. Born in Little Bay East, N.L., she was a daughter of the late Ralph and Susanne (Cox) Pittman. For 17 years, Jean had worked for Keddy's Hotel, retiring in 1983. She loved baseball, especially the local teams, whom she watched year after year even after her children had outgrown the league known as Greystone of the Halifax Recreational Department. For her true love of the sport and the children, Jean had received numerous trophies, and will always be remembered as the "#1 Fan".
She loved her children and grandchildren dearly. Family was her world, and she was always there for them all when needed. She is survived by her husband, Vincent; her daughter, Catherine "Lynn" Hiltz, Upper Tantallon; sons, Glenn Mercer, Coley's Point, N.L.; Vincent Devereaux Jr., Halifax, and Terry Devereaux, Sackville; her siblings, Cyril, Alvin, Laura and Beatrice, as well as her cherished grandchildren, Natasha, Teryn, and John; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, and siblings, George, Oliver, Hazel and Catherine. Arrangements have been entrusted to J. Albert Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd., 149 Herring Cove Rd., Spryfield (477-5601), where cremation has taken place. A service will be held at a later date. Jean married Vincent Joseph Devereaux Sr., son of Patrick Joseph Devereaux and Elizabeth "Liza" Ann Molloy. (Vincent Joseph Devereaux Sr. was born in 1933 in Marystown, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada, died on 29 Sep 2008 in Dartmouth General Hospital, Nova Scotia and was buried in Cremains- Newfoundland.)
