BRAKE, Richard Ignatius Sr."Dick" - 63, Lunenburg, passed away November 10, 2005, in Fisherman's Memorial Hospital, after a lengthy battle with respiratory disease. Born in Marystown, NL, he was a son of the late John Brake and Elizabeth (Brake) Power, and stepson of the late William Power.
Richard was a fisherman from the age of 16, sailing out of Lunenburg and Riverport. He retired from fishing in 1987 and become a taxi driver for 10 years. Richard was an active member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 23 in Lunenburg for 24 years. He was involved in many volunteer activities for the legion and enjoyed his time spent there. He was very close to his family and loved spending time with his grandsons.
He is survived by his wife, Sue (Hynes); sons, Wayne, at home; John (Pam), Back Centre, and Richard (Cindy), Garden Lots; daughter, Denise (Troy) McAuley, Back Centre, and grandsons, Cody, Tyler and Alex. He is also survived by brother, George; sisters, Agetha Brake and Theresa Smith, all of Marystown, NL; several half-brothers and sisters; stepbrothers and sisters, as well as several aunts and uncles. He was predeceased by half-brother, Peter Brake (Prince Edward Island), and half-sister, Anne Slaney (Newfoundland). Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213 Highway No. 3, Lunenburg, with Legion service Sunday at 6:45 p.m. followed by visiting from 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass will be celebrated Monday at 2 p.m. in St. Norbert's Roman Catholic Church, Lunenburg, Msgr. William Wambolt officiating. Interment in Hillcrest Cemetery, Lunenburg. Flowers from immediate family only. Donations may be made to the family. www.sweenyfuneralhome.ca
