bullet  General Notes:

It is with heavy hearts that the family announces the passing of Phillip James Hynes on April 27th, 2021 at the age of 80 years.
Phil will always be loved, cherished, and missed by: the love of his life, wife Hazel; son Derek; daughter Heather (Jason) Roberts; grandson Andrew Phillip Roberts; and "poppy's puppy" Chipper.
Phil is also survived by: brothers: Arthur (Mary), Kyran (Mary), and Brendan (Theresa); sisters: Jeroma (Wannie) Phillipo and Collette Murray; sisters-in-law: Suzanne Gallant, Zella (Tony) Power, Mabel Gallant, and Anne AuCoin; brothers-in-law: Desmond (Jessie) Gallant and Elvis Gallant; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended relatives, and friends.
Phil was pre-deceased by: parents Harold and Mamie Hynes; brothers: Harold, Albert and Don (Patricia); sisters: Marie (Cyril) Taylor, Delores Hynes, and Barbie Hynes; brothers-in-law: Llewellyn Gallant (Phyllis Osmond), Robert Gallant, and George Murray.
At a very young age Phil left home to join the military where he was stationed in New Brunswick, British Columbia and Germany. When he finished his "stint" he returned home and went to work as an electrician. He first worked with Frank's electrical and then with Frelco for 36 years. Phil was the owner/operator of Phil's electrical for twelve years.
Phil was a very kind hearted man - if he had it and you needed it, he would give it to you. There were many electrical jobs done where the service and sometimes even the materials were free. He had a very big heart \endash especially for senior citizens.
As a Legionnaire, Phil spent many years volunteering with branch 35. He loved hunting and fishing and spent time with his buddies in Robinsons trying to find the elusive moose or salmon. He also loved to golf, curl, play baseball (in his younger years), darts, and bowl. It is during these activities that he met many of his longtime friends. Phil will miss his Redwood buddies - he didn't get to see them recently but he liked to talk about the laughs they would have there in the afternoons at "beer o'clock" as he liked to call it. If you asked his grandson where he was any afternoon he would always say "at the Redwood!"
In the past 3 years Phil's health deteriorated and he wasn't able to get out around as much but he appreciated seeing visitors and getting calls. He was very fortunate to have such a large number of friends and family members.
Phil lived a good life with Hazel travelling the island, playing golf, having family meals, socializing with their friends, trips to Florida, British Columbia and to Toronto to see his beloved Blue Jays. Phil and Hazel were married in 1963 and spent very few nights apart in that time. Even at his sickest he was only worried about her and would ask "how's mom" and only when he was assured she was okay would he relax a little.
Phillip was an incredible father, husband, brother, brother in law, friend and uncle who will be missed by all who knew him.
Following his wishes, cremation has taken place and due to Covid-19 restrictions a visitation and funeral service to celebrate Phil's life will be held at a later date.
As expressions of sympathy, in lieu of flowers, donations in Phil's memory can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, The War Amps, or to a charity of one's choice.
The Hynes family would like to thank Dr. Griffin and the staff at the Broadway Medical Centre, the staff at the emergency room at Sir Thomas Roddick hospital, Dr. Bruff, Dr. Hough, and nurses Shirley Laing and Pamela Gosse. There's a special place in heaven for those who treat the sick and ailing here on earth.
