Robert W. SMITH, 75, of 27277 Simpson Road, Mendon, Mich., died Monday, Aug. 13, 2001, at the Sturgis Hospital after an extended illness.
He was born Feb. 26, 1926, in Coldwater, Mich., a son of Willis David and Lucille Maude (PARSHALL) SMITH. He had lived in the Mendon area for the past 30 years, coming from Coldwater. On Nov. 13, 1971, he married Betty m. COLLINS-BUSH in Angola, Ind.
He was employed as a milk hauler and a state milk inspector for many years, retiring in 1992. He was named the field representative of the year in 1990.
A member of St. Edwards Catholic Church in Mendon, he was also a sponsor for Star Commonwealth Foster Care for Children. He enjoyed his family and was loved as a father by his step-children.
Surviving are; his wife, Betty M. SMITH of Mendon; two daughters, Mrs. Edward (Judy) WYATT of Angola, Ind., and Mrs. Michael (Christine) BRADLEY of Union City; a son, Robert SMITH Jr. of Coldwater; three step-daughters, Mrs. John (Carla) BUTCHBAKER of Hillsdale, Jane RIOS of Mendon, and Gayle BRUBAKER of Mendon; a step-daughter-in-law Carlene BUSH; a step-son Christopher BUSH of Mendon; 16 grandchildren and step-grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; four sisters, Mrs. Paul (Marguerite) STRAW, Iva May SMITH, Mrs. Hildon (Mary) DANBURY and Marian CAZIER, all of Coldwater; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a twin sister, Rolene ALEXANDER-BARTHOLD; and a step-son, Eric C. BUSH.
The family will receive friends from 2-5 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the Eickhoff Funeral Home in Mendon. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Edwards Catholic Church in Mendon with the Rev. Thomas Martin officiating. Cremation will follow the services with interment of the cremains at a later date.
Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
