Obituary
Anthony Joseph Hynes, Papa Tone. The kindest man in Newfoundland. Taken from us suddenly on September 4th, 2022, doing what he loved most, socializing with friends and family. Predeceased by his parents Horatio Hynes and Bernadette Hull. Tony is survived by: his wife of 31 years, Donna (Gabriel); daughters: Toni Lynn of Halifax and Whitney (Dylan Guy) of St. John's; and their son by heart, Danny Latuplippe; his brother Paul (Sherry), Corner Brook; his sisters: Sandra (Bruce) Moffatt, Edmonton, Mary (John) Pippy and Patricia Hynes, St. John's, Brenda (Anthony) Felix, Barbara (Paul) Byrne, and Denise (Butch) Eddy; brother in-law, Brent (Janice) Gabriel; sisters-in-law: Michelle (Craig) Melanson and Gina Gabriel; his mother in-law Lena Gabriel, all of Stephenville, as well as a large circle of nieces and nephews, extended relatives, and friends.

From an early age Tony displayed an interest in all things involving technology. These interests followed him throughout his life. Tony worked during the early days of offshore exploration on the Zapata Ugland drill rig, followed by many years at the Abitibi Paper Mill in Stephenville. He was then employed with the Town of Stephenville in Water Maintenance and retired in 2021. Tony was a valued employee, an expert in his trade, passionate about his work, and an incredibly hard worker.

From helping friends and family build their homes and cabins, to his hobby of constructing miniature towns and train sets, Tony never knew an idle moment. He loved to spend time in the woods with his friends and family, riding his side-by-side, hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, and camping.

Tony will be missed for his kindness, wisdom, kisses on the forehead, Dad jokes, dance moves, passion for music, vigilance for recycling, keeping the freezer stocked with ice, his zest for life, and most importantly, his compassion.

Tony was an exceptional son, brother, husband, father, uncle, and friend. While he had just two biological daughters, he was a father figure to many. He had the biggest heart, loved to entertain and be a shoulder to cry on for anyone who needed it. Tony was everyone's rock. He will be dearly missed by his family as well as a large circle of life-long friends.

Following his wishes cremation has taken place. A visitation will be held on Monday, September 12th 2:00-4:00 PM & 7:00-9:00 PM from Russell's Funeral Home, Stephenville. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, September 13th at 11:00 AM from St. Stephen's Parish.

As expressions of sympathy, in lieu of flowers, donations in Tony's memory may be made to the SPCA. Email donations to swcspca@hotmail.com . Contributions will be auto deposited please include in memory of Tony Hynes in comments section
