William Connors Obituary
CONNORS, WILLIAM AMATOS 97, passed peacefully in his sleep on Saturday, August 2, 2014 at his home. He was the beloved husband of the late Marilyn O. (Wilcox) Connors for 70 years and was a resident of Scituate for 57 years. Born in North Sydney, Nova Scotia, Canada, the son of Michael Joseph Connors and Mary Maude (Sparrow) Connors, he was the father of Dennis W. Connors and wife Michele of Foster City, CA, Robert M. Connors and his wife Kathy of New Paltz, NY and Lynn McShane and her husband Michael of Scituate. He was also the grandfather of Barbara Jordan, Abigail McShane, Joyce Connors, Adam McShane and Patrick Connors and great-grandfather of Cody Connor McShane, Sol Wren Jordan and Talon Rose Jordan. He came to Wickford, RI in the spring of 1941 where he met Marilyn and they were married at St Bernard Church on November 1, 1941. He served in the US Army in the South Pacific during World War II from June 1942 until he was honorably discharged in November 1945. A lifelong member of the International Association of Bridge, Structural and Ornamental Ironworkers, he joined MA Local 37 in 1940, transferred to RI Local 37 in 1942 and retired in 1983. He served as a longtime member of the Potterville Volunteer Fire Department. His quiet yet strong manner earned him the nickname "Whisperin' Willie" from his family and friends. Funeral Mass to be held on Friday at 10:00 am at St. Joseph Church, 144 Danielson Pike, North Scituate with calling hours on Thursday, 5:00 - 7:00 pm in the Winfield and Sons Funeral Home, 571 West Greenville Road, North Scituate. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to Potterville Fire Department, 953 Tunk Hill Road, Foster, RI 02825.
