Joseph Henry Brown

Local and Family Histories: New England, 1600-1900s
Joseph Henry Brown, son of Labon, was b. in Salisbury,
Dec. 13, 1795. He was in Bristol as early as 1820, and m.
Feb. 29, 1822, Sally, dau. of Rowell Straw. He succeeded her
father on the Horne farm just above the schoolhouse near Solon
Dolloff's, and near where the schoolhouse now is, he had a
cabinet shop. Mrs. Brown d., and he m., Sept. 16, 1824, Jane,
dau. of Benjamin Kidder (See), b. July 30, 1797. He removed
to Danbury in 1835. He was a contractor in constructing a
section of the Franklin and Bristol railroad. A partner drew
$1,700 from the company to pay the workmen and decamped,
and Mr. Brown was obliged to mortgage his farm to make good
the loss. She d. Danbury, Aug. 26, 1880, ae. 82-0-26; he d.
Dec. 15, 1886, ae. 91-0-2.

1870 Danbury, Grafton county, NH
Joseph and Mary along with married son David and David's wife Malinda and their daughter Nellie; also Joseph's daughter Mary A. and daughter Melissa.

Joseph married Sally Straw, daughter of Rowell Colby Straw and Lydia, on 28 Feb 1822 in Bristol, Grafton County, New Hampshire. (Sally Straw was born on 31 Jul 1798 and died before 1824 in New Hampshire.)

Joseph next married Jane Kidder, daughter of Lieut. Benjamin Kidder and Mary Heath, on 16 Sep 1824 in New Hampshire. (Jane Kidder was born on 30 Jul 1797 in Bristol, Merrimack County, New Hampshire and died on 26 Aug 1880 in Danbury, Merrimack County, New Hampshire.)
