Woman calls police - states she is not dead or missing
New York, July 29 '97 Police said today that sa woman telephoned the missing persons bureau Monday night and said she was Anne Straw,missing 20-year-old heiress and Smith college senior, who vanished eight days ago.
Detective Alexander Kaplan, who took the call,, said the woman told him: "I am Anne Straw from New Hampshire. I am not dead or missing, and I do not wish to be annoyed with any more publicity.
Kaplan said he asked the person who called him where she was and that she replied "I'm in the Times Square area." He said other policeattempted to trace the call while he engaged her in conversation but the location could not be determined before the call was completed. Kaplan said she hung up without replying when he asked "Why don't you write your parents and tell
