bullet  General Notes:

per Gen of Mason on Rootsweb:
Seth Wight had a great love for, and pride in his kindred and wished his children to know of them and to bear them in mind when the chances of life might bring them near each other. At the age of twenty years he injured himself at a house burning which made him an invalid for life, but changed not in the least his aims, nor slackened his ambitions. He was among the first settlers of Gilead, Maine, locating there when he was twenty-two. His interest was early manifested in the spread of the Gospel and success of schools. He devoted one room of his house to meetings and one to schools, and he joined with others in building a house of worship. He was fifty years a member of the Congregational Church having united with the first church formed in Gilead.
In 1818 he commenced keeping a small store and continued until 1838, justice of the peace, 1827, constable, collector and town treasurer for thirteen years, selectman and assessor, five years, town clerk, three years, referee on many important cases, and called one of the most accurate surveyors of timberland.
He gave liberally toward founding Gould's Academy, assisted in building a bridge across the Androscoggin River, and in whatever he could, lent a helping hand.
