GUILFORD - Alice S. Mooers, 93, died August 28, 2003. She had maintained her own home on North Main Street in Guilford until a month ago. She was born in Guilford January 11, 1910, the fourth of five children born to David R. and Sophia J. (Brown) Straw. She graduated from Guilford High School in 1927, attended Maine School of Commerce in Portland where she met and married in 1929 Philip R. Higgins, later living in Massachusetts and Rhode Island. Following their divorce in 1944 she returned to Guilford, marrying in 1952 Sherman W. Mooers who died in 1962. She worked in the office of Guilford Industries and later at Northeast Bank. She was active as both member and Treasurer of the Guilford Senior Citizens. In her earlier years she was an avid bridge player and in recent years had become a loyal Red Sox fan and will always be remembered as a most loving grandmother and mother.

She is survived by her son, Donald Higgins, and his wife Ethel (Kurki) of Saco; son Alan Mooers of Guilford, granddaughters Melinda (Higgins) McCardell and Karen (Higgins) Corrado, both of Dayton, grandson Timothy Higgins of Katy, Texas, grandsons Michael Mooers of Dexter and Adam Mooers of Guilford. Six great grandchildren; a brother, Irving Straw and his wife Marie of Hobe Sound, Florida and a nephew Merle Straw and his wife Judith of Hampton, New Hampshire also survive her. A grandson, Eric Mooers, two brothers, Merle and Eldred, and a sister, Florence, predeceased her.
