History of Weare, NH by Wm Little - he settled in South Weare c1771, having lived in Hampstead and Goffstown before coming there...served in Rev War.
BIOGRAPHY: In 1766, fought in French and Indian War. Moved to S Weare in 1771. At outbreak of American Revolution, registered as "Friend", ie, Loyalist, but changed mind and served with revolutionary army in two military campaigns; was with Gen. Stark at Battle of Bennington. Held all important town offices, and was member of the General Court (colonial legislature.) Member of Anabaptist Church; church was built near one corner of his farm, and he had ground-floor pew for which he paid 12. When church was raised, congregants drank entire barrel of rum. This was considered temperate; another congregation in Amherst drank eight barrels when their church was built. [research of Richard N. Burns on Rootsweb)
