[Rootsweb message board reply of Erin Proctor] "Rachel filed a widows civil war pension request on 27 Aug 1863 or 1873 Application no. 31.354, certificate no. 12546. He was in D 29th Wisconsin Infantry.
Appears to have kept her STRAW surname (rather than SYMONDS) prior to marriage.
Rachel married Frederick Augustus Dyke, son of Gideon Dike and Polly Fuller, on 3 Apr 1821 in Acworth, Sullivan County, New Hampshire. (Frederick Augustus Dyke was born in Jul 1801 in Greenfield, Hillsborough County, New Hampshire, died on 27 Jun 1863 in Milikins Bend, Louisiana and was buried in Forest Hill Cemetery in Madison, Dane county, Wisconsin.). The cause of his death was dysentery.
