Dyke (July 1801 - June 27, 1863) and Rachel (June 1799 - April 13, 1867) --Section 2. Drum Major Dyke of the 29th Regiment died of disease at Milliken's Bend, Louisiana, during the Vicksburg campaign. "He was a noble old patriot who loved his country and was ever ready to die for it. He was an excellent musician ... Our people will long remember the enthusiastic manner in which he used to lead all processions as a drummer. He was ever ready where music was wanted."

Parents of Frederick A. Dyke may be: Gideon & Polly (Fuller) Dike/Dyke who married Feb 10, 1801 in Tewksbury MA. In 1820 & 1830 both Gideon and Frederick were living in Greenfield NH. Gideon Dike was probably the son of Benjamin & Dorcas (Levistone) Dike, born 25 March 1775 in Tewksbury MA. The records state that his mother Dorcas was a widow in July 1776. Benjamin & Dorcas married Sept 3, 1772 in Tewksbury MA I believe the Dike family below of Mont Vernon/Amherst is related, unsure of how. There are some suggestions below (such as contacting the Greenfield Historical Society, and obtaining civil war papers).
