Obituary - Alta Bean (Published on 10/15/2003 in the Post Standard)
Brant Lake -- Alta Bean, 92, died Monday, Oct 13, 2003, at West Mount Health Care Facility, Queensbury.
Born June 20, 1911, in the town of Horicon, she was the daughter of the late Clarence J. and Rose A. (Bennett) Burns.
Mrs. Bean and her late husband Albert owned Bean Products Company of Brant Lake where they made leather novelties; they also owned and raised race horses. Mrs. Bean was a member of the Horicon Senior Citizens, past secretary of the Horicon Historical Society, former Vice President of the Brant Lake Cemetery Association and a member of the Old Timers Horsemen's Club. She attended church at the Brant Lake Wesleyan Church in Brant Lake.
She is predeceased by her husband Albert Bean, and one half brother, George Starbuck.
Survivors include her half sister, Mildred Hanmer of Chestertown; also many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Graveside services will be at 1 p.m., Friday Oct. 17, at Brant Lake Cemetery, Brant Lake with the Rev. Rusty Bissell Pastor of Brant Lake Wesleyan Church officiating.
Expressions of sympathy may be made to the charity of ones choice.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Barton-McDermott Funeral Home, 9 Pine St., Chestertown, N.Y.

Alta resided in Brant Lake until Oct 2003 in a house built on the property of her grandparents ( Jeptha Mahlon Bennett and Ann Hemenway Bennett.)
For some time the Beans owned and kept horses but after the demise of the animals she boarded other people's horses in the barn on the property.
Alta remained active in her community of Brant Lake. She was a volunteer at the local museum and had a wealth of information on the surrounding area.

Florence married Albert Collins Bean, son of James Albert Bean and Martha Cofer, on 28 Nov 1945. (Albert Collins Bean was born on 22 Nov 1890 in Corydon, Indiana, died on 30 Aug 1972 in Horicon, Warren County, New York and was buried in Brant Lake Cemetery in Horicon, New York.)
