Frederick S. Hall, 88, of Little Pond Road, died yesterday at his home. He was born in Concord, the son of Carl and Carrie (Straw) Hall. He attended local schools, graduating from Concord High School in 1931. He attended the University of New Hampshire and Boston University Law School, graduating in 1938 with a LLB degree; he passed the New Hampshire Bar examination that same year. Shortly after opening a law office in Portsmouth, he went to Washington, D.C., and served as an administrative assistant to Congressman Foster Stearns of the Second District. Having received a ROTC commission at UNH and with the prospect of war, he left the congressman's office in July 1941 and went on active duty with the Air Force. After a year at Bolding Field in Washington, D.C., he was transferred to the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, N.Y., assigned to the department of tactics for the purpose of establishing and overseeing the flight training program for cadets. He was separated from active duty in 1945 and was retired with the rank of lieutenant colonel in 1963. In 1945, he returned to Concord, where he became associated with the Morse and Grant law firm, eventually becoming the senior partner in the firm now known as Hall, Morse, Anderson, Miller and Spinella. He was a member of the Merrimack County Bar Association, the New Hampshire Bar Association and the American Bar Association. He was a past president and Paul Harris Fellow of the Concord Rotary Club. He served as president of the Concord chapter of the American Red Cross and was general chairman of the Concord United Fund in 1968. He was a past chairman of the zoning board of adjustment and was a member of the Capitol Region Health Care Corp. He was a past director of the Greater Concord Chamber of Commerce and served on the board of the Visiting Nurse Association. He was also a member of the South Congregational Church of Concord since 1931. He was an avid outdoorsman, loved hunting, fishing, tennis, skiing and sailing. He was a founder and charter member of the Concord Yacht Club. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Geraldine (McIninch) Hall of Concord; a son, William Hall of Bow; a daughter, Elizabeth MacKissock of Laconia; a sister, Charlotte Robbins of Bonita Springs, Fla.; two grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews. There will be no calling hours. Private graveside services will be held at the Blossom Hill Cemetery at the convenience of the family. A memorial service will be held Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. at the South Congregational Church, 27 Pleasant St., Concord, with the Rev. Gayle Murphy, associate pastor, officiating.
