Paul E. Rowse, formerly of Harpster and more recently of Fairhaven Alcove Apartments in Upper Sandusky, died at 6:15 a.m. Sunday, May 14, 2006 at Fairhaven Retirement and Healthcare Community. He was 90.
Born north of Harpster on Dec. 6, 1915, he was a son of Frank and Sarah (Brewer) Rowse. On Dec. 12, 1947, he married Genevieve Wiest at Primitive Baptist Church in Brush Ridge. She survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Ann Bils, rural Harpster; and Margaret Evert, Colorado Springs, Colo.; four grandchildren, Bryan Beard, Cartersville, Ga.; Amy Beard-Tucker, Chesterfield, Va.; Laura Newman-Lesher, Everett, Wash.; and Eric Newman, Whitesboro, N.Y.; two stepgrandchildren, Laura Troxel, Harpster; and Susan Bils-Best, Arlington; seven great-grandchildren; and two stepgreat-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by four brothers, John, Emmet, Homer and Arthur; and one infant sister.
A 1933 graduate of Harpster High School, Rowse worked for many years at Whirlpool in Marion and retired as Post Master of the Harpster Post Office. He was a World War II veteran, serving as Master Sergeant in the Army Air Transport Command in Panama, Guatemala, the Galapagos Islands and China.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and AmVets Post No. 777 in Upper Sandusky.
Mr. Rowse is a former member of the Oceola EUB Church and has been a member of Trinity Evangelical United Methodist Church.
He enjoyed vegetable gardening, raising roses, bird watching, fishing and spending summers at Lake Erie.
The funeral is 11 a.m. Thursday at Lucas-Batton Funeral Home with the Rev. Marc Quinter officiating. Burial is in Grand Prairie Cemetery in Marion. Graveside rites will be conducted by the Marion Veterans Burial Detail. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the Diabetes Foundation, the Salvation Army or to the organization of the donor's choice in care of Lucas-Batton Funeral home, PO Box 207, Upper Sandusky OH 43351.
