BOSTON HERALD - 28 Feb 1890 "Manchester, NH - 27 Feb 1890 - There was great interest in this city today over the attempt of Parker R. Brown driver of Merrimac engine company to break the record in an exhibition hitch. Firemen were present from Boston, Concord and other cities, and considerable money was wagered on the result, odds being given that he could not beat 3 minutes. At an alarm on the ticker, Mr. Brown arose from bed, put on his clothes, ran 150 feet tot he stable, put the horses into the shafts, made the necessary hitches, and drive to the Lake Ave engine house, one third of a mile away, in one minute 47 seconds, unquestionably beating all previous records."
