James ran a store in Woodsville, NH. In the Ellen Straw Thompson papers there was a letter heading for J. B. Straw of Woodsville, Grafton County,NH.

Census: 1860 Coos county NH (James is age 73 and living with DIL Almira Murray Commet Straw and her 3 children: Lysander, Lurette and George - No listing for Hannah (died 1854) the wife of James or Eliphaz (died 1858) his son and husband of Almira.
