William was a farmer at Lisbon until 1834 when he moved to Lewiston.
In the War of 1812 he served as a sergeant.
He was selectman in Lisbon and a justice of the peace in Lisbon and Lewiston.
For sixty-five years he was a member of the
Freewill Baptist Church.
He was an anti-slavery advocate.
