HAVERHILL — Richard Theoharis, 85, of Haverhill, died Monday afternoon, Oct. 1, 2007 at his residence.
He was born in Haverhill, June 25, 1922, son of the late George and Edna (Dunn) Theoharis, and was educated in the Haverhill School System.
During World War II he served in the United States Navy, attaining the rank of S1c.
Until his retirement in 1988 Mr. Theoharis was employed for the Mass. State Highway Department for over 17 years.
He was a member of the VFW, Salem, NH, and the DAV, Newburyport.
He was the husband of the late Jessie (Bradley) Theoharis who died in 1991 and his survivors include three sons; Jonathan R. Theoharis of Lowell, George F. Theoharis of Wichita, Kan., Jeffrey Theoharis of Lawrence; two daughters, Victoria J. Straw and her husband Charles of Newton Junction, N.H., Constance D.Theoharis of Haverhill; a brother, George Woodsum of Newburyport; a sister, Eleanor Girrier of Cape Cod; a sister-in-law, Victoria Bradley of Haverhill and a dear family friend, Linda Gallant of Amesbury.
Richard was extremely proud of his Greek heritage and recent discovery of his Mic Mac Indian Ancestry. Back in the day, he enjoyed playing "45's (a local card game) with friends where the 5's are the highest card in the deck. Five is where he stood in life: five children, five grandchildren (Joshua, Adam, Samantha, Rachel and little George) and five great-grandchildren.
ARRANGEMENTS: Relatives and friends were respectfully invited to attend the graveside service Friday at 10 a.m. in the Elmwood Cemetery, Bradford. There will be no calling hours.
