Funeral services for Espy Akers, 87, of Gravity, were held November 26th at Shums-Novinger Fuenral Home conducted by Rev. Calvin Caughy, Bedford Baptist minister. Mr. Akers died November 23rd at his home northeast of Gravity at the age of 87 years, three months and 15 days. Burial was at Washington Cemetery, Gravity, Iowa.
The following obituary was included in the service; Espy Akers, son of Richard Taylor Akers and Amanda Slyker, was born August 8, 1876. He spent his entire lifetime in the community northeast of Gravity.
On February 24, 1904, he was united in marriage to Miss Iva Brand. To this union, two sons and a daughter were born. They are Lester, LD, and Inez (Mrs. Clarence Tribolet) all of the Bedford community. Espy was preceded in death by his father and mother, an infant sister and brother, a sister Lena French, two brothers, Herbert and Neal and a grandson Troy Tribolet.
He is survived by his wife, Iva, his children, Lester, LD, and Inez, five grandchildren, four great-granchildren, three sisters, Iva Straw of Jasper, Minnesota, Dulla Cook of Independence, Kansas, Miranda McKune of Gravity; two brothers, Ben of Summer, Mo. and Oscar of Sharpsburg, also nieces, nephews and a host of friends. He loved his home and family.
