The funeral for Dale D. Mathis of Forest Grove will be at 2 p.m. Friday in the Memorial Gardens Funeral Chapel in Vancouver, Wash. He died Tuesday in a Hillsboro hospital of causes related to age. He was 75.
Mr. Mathis was born Jan. 12, 1917, in Plankinton, S.D., and moved to Camas, Wash., when he was 16. He lived in Springfield from 1947 to 1970 and then moved to La Grande, where he lived for 17 years. He had lived in Forest Grove for two years.
He was a union asbestos worker in Portland, retiring in 1970. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Evelynne; sons, Dale Jr. and Spencer, both of Los Angeles, James of Astoria and Wayne Thrall of Beaverton; daughters, Sharon Shrum of Forest Grove, Judy Hamlin of Springfield and Shelly Brown of Seaside; a brother, George of Vancouver; sisters, Leone Dorsett and Marie Chevron, both of Washougal, Wash.; 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
The family suggests that remembrances be contributions to the American Lung Association in Seattle.
Burial will be in the Good Shepherd Mausoleum at Evergreen Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Vancouver.
