Donald Fredrick William Mascher was born Aug. 12, 1923 north of Clarinda to Wilbert John Henry Mascher and Alma Sophia Marie (Henneman) Mascher. He graduated Immanuel Lutheran School and was a lifelong member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. Don was married to Jean Ray July 28, 1946 at the Methodist Church, Bedford. The marriage was blessed with four children: Chester, Maxine, Marvin and Judy. They moved to East River Township southeast of Clarinda to farm, then to Villisca to farm for the Tyler family, later settling in Nodaway Township north of Clarinda. Don farmed until his health declined a few years ago. He was active in the community serving on the Production Cr edit Association Board, Farmers Union Shipping Assoc. Board, and he served as Immanuel's elder, president of the congregation and on the Immanuel school board. He and Jean enjoyed their grandchildren's' visits to the farm and the time spent with all the family.
Donald entered into rest Friday, Jan. 18 at the age of 89 in Des Moines. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jean; parents; grandson Paul Mascher, infant granddaughter, three infant great grandchildren; sister Pauline Mascher; and brothers-in-law Robert Rasmussen, Kenneth Breach, and Clifford Nook.
He is survived by his four children: Chester Mascher and his wife Marilyn of Clarinda, Maxine Bohannon and her husband Bud of Norwalk, Marvin Mascher and his wife Sherril of Clarinda, and Judy Straw and her husband Gene Sr of Sidney; sisters Dorothy Otte and husband LaVern of Clarinda, Agnes Dunham and husband Duane of Omaha, NE, Martha Rasmussen of Omaha, NE, and Janice Nook of Creston; sixteen grandchildren; twenty-eight great grandchildren; and four great great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, Jan. 23 at Immanuel Lutheran Church with Rev. Justin Whitmore and Rev. Michael Breach officiating. Interment at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, rural Clarinda. Memorials are suggested to Immanuel Church Shut-In Recording Equipment Upgrade. Eickemeyer Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements. www.MemoriesOnline.com

Donald married Jean Ray on 28 Jul 1946 in Methodist church in Bedford, Iowa. (Jean Ray was born on 25 Dec 1927 in Athelston, Iowa, died on 24 Feb 2008 in Clarinda Regional Health Center, Clarinda, Page County, Iowa and was buried in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Clarinda, Iowa.)
