bullet  General Notes:

Obit per (prob Warrensburg [New York] News) 19 Sept 1912:
Mrs Martha Ross died at the home of her daughter, Mrs Lorenzo Hemenway, in Horicon,[NY] Saturday morning, September 14, aged 84 yrs. Mrs Ross was the widow of Sylvester Ross, who died about 15 yrs ago and had been a life long resident of Horicon and Bolton. Her life had been associated with the early pioneer experiences of the section, her husband being for many yrs a lumberman, and she knew of the troubles of life as they had to do with the earning of a livelihood fifty and seventy-five yrs ago. When a young girl gave her heart to the Lord, and was baptized into the fellowship of the Horicon Baptist church.Possessing then the advantage of a genuine Christian experience she was fortified for the hard struggle of those early days in facing the practical questions involved in the raising of a large family and circumscribed conditions. Mrs Ross was familiarly known as "Aunt Martha" by the people of Horicon and many interested friends besides, and was much loved and respected for her sterling worth, her marked common sense and her unalloyed Christian integrity. Her departure removes one of the old landmarks from among the citizens of Horicon.
She is survived by two sons, Joseph Ross of Alaska, and Judson Ross, of Ticonderoga, [NY] and by five daughters - Mrs L. S. Hemenway and Ella Brownell of Horicon; Mrs Lura Wood of Ticonderoga; Mrs Betsey May of Chestertown; and Mrs Henry Rising of Morrisville, NY.The funeral was held at the Horicon Baptist Church Monday afternoon and was conducted by the Rev. F. M. LaBar, who took for his text the words of Matthew 25:23, "Well done good and faithful servant; thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things;enter thou into the joy of thy Lord."
