for consideration: a Leander Smith age 15 [b IL c1835] is living with David Smith and family in 1850 in Shabbona, IL I do not think he is a brother of David as born in 1835 IL as a Smith eliminates him. He is not David's son either as David would have only been 12 in the year of Leander's birth and David did not marry until 1840.
