John W. Frazier, age 96, of Springfield passed away at 6:00 a.m. Monday, December 29, 2014 in The Manor at Elfindale. He was born on the family farm December 5, 1918 in Forest City, MO to Henry and Maud Stroud Frazier.
Following high school and serving in the US Army Air Corps during WWII, John returned home and married Virginia Fries in 1945. They farmed and John also worked as a carpenter until his retirement in 1998. They moved into town in Forest City after the flood of 1953 and in 1961 moved to St. Joseph with John continuing to farm right up to age 80. John moved to Springfield in 2005 to be near family.
John was a member of First Presbyterian Church of St. Joseph, The Masonic Lodge of Forest City and Moila Shrine Temple in St. Joseph.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Virginia Fries Frazier and his second wife, Doris Pennington Frazier. John is survived by his son, The Reverend Jonathan E. Frazier, Associate Rector of Christ Episcopal Church in Springfield and wife, Ann Marie; grandsons, Evon J. Penland Frazier of Rolla, MO and Connor L. Penland Frazier of Kirksville, MO; sister, Hazel M. Laukemper of Murfreesboro, TN; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
John was regarded as a kind, good, loving and gentle man by those who knew him.
Funeral services will be Saturday, January 3, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. in Christ Episcopal Church with the Reverend Kenneth L. Chumbley officiating, under the care of Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home. Masonic Rites followed by visitation will be Friday, January 2, 2015 from 6 to 7:00 p.m. in the funeral home. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery in Mound City, MO at 2:00 p.m. Monday, January 5, 2015.
John married Virginia Catherine Fries, daughter of Harry Clinton Fries and Nellie Catherine Feil, on 25 Oct 1947 in Kansas City, Clay County, Missouri. (Virginia Catherine Fries was born on 22 Dec 1921 in Mound City, Holt County, Missouri, USA, died on 4 Mar 1993 and was buried in Mount Hope Cemetery Mound City, Holt County, Missouri, USA.)
