Betty June Straw, 83, 14629 Schumm Road, Ohio City, died at 4:15 a.m. Sept. 7, 2008, at her home.
She was born June 1, 1925, in Mendon, to Oral Eugene and Goldie Marie Grimm Rickard. On July 3, 1948, she married Jason D. Straw, who survives.
Also surviving are three sons, Anthony D. (Barb), Aliso Viejo, Calif.; Dennis W. (Terri), Ohio City; and Jay D. (Jennifer), Grand Rapids, Mich.; five daughters, Linda D. (Terry) Stuckey and Kathie D., all of Ohio City; Deb. K., Wren; Susan D. Tinnel and Karen D. (Doug) Droll, all of Van Wert; a brother, Oral "Gene" Rickard, Young, Ariz.; two sisters, Donna L., Winter Park, Fla., and Jo Ann Clark, Virginia Beach, Va.; 15 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Deceased are a son, Douglas Lloyd; and a grandson.
She was a homemaker, a member of St. Paul's Church, Harrison Township, and had served on the county board of elections.
Services are 2 p.m. Thursday at the church, the Rev. Jerry Flueckiger officiating. Burial will follow at Evangelical Protestant Cemetery, Harrison Township.

OHIO CITY, Ohio - Betty June Straw, 83, of Ohio City, went to meet her Savior at 4:15am Sunday September 7, 2008, at her home surrounded and comforted by her family. She was born June 1, 1925, in Mendon, the daughter of the late Oral Eugene and Goldie Marie Rickard. She married Jason Straw on July 3, 1948, at St. Mark's Church in Van Wert, Ohio.
She had a passion for the outdoors and was outside every minute she was able so she could tend to her flowers and vegetable gardens. She and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren loved to take rides in "Mom's Taxi" (golf cart) around the family farm. When not outdoors, she enjoyed reading, knitting, crocheting, playing cards, playing electronic games like solitaire, Gameboy Tetris, and Wii bowling. She was a caring woman that was involved at her church, knitted afghans for shut-ins, delivered meals and garden vegetables to neighbors, and served her community on the board of elections. She was an especially loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother that loved to cook meals for her family to bring them all together every Sunday and no friend or unexpected guest was evr turned away hungry. She was a special woman and will be greatly missed by her friends and family.
Family survivors include her husband of sixty years, Jason Straw; eight children (and their spouses), Linda (Terry) Stukey of Ohio City, Anthony (Barb) Straw of Aliso Viejo, CA, Deb Straw of Wren; Kathie Straw of Ohio City, Dennis (Terri) Straw of Ohio City, Sue Tinnel of Van Wert, Karen (Doug) Droll of Van Wert, Jay (Jennifer) Straw of Grand Rapids, MI; three siblings, Donna Straw of Winter Park, FL, Jo Ann Clark of Virginia Beach, VA., Oral "Gene" Rickard of Young, AZ; fifteen grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son Douglas Straw and one grandson Rusty Straw.
Funeral services will be held at 2pm Thursday September 11, 2008 at St. Paul's Church on German Church Road. Burial will be held at Woodland Cemetery. Visitation will be at Cowan Funeral Home on Wednesday from 6-8pm.

Betty married Jason Deloyd Straw, son of Richard Rex Straw and Leona Gehres, on 3 Jul 1948 in Van Wert, Ohio. (Jason Deloyd Straw was born on 22 Oct 1924 in Glenmore, Van Wert County, Ohio, died on 2 Jan 2016 in Ohio City, Van Wert County, Ohio and was buried in Evangelical Protestant Cemetery in Convoy, Ohio.)
