Deceased Name: Richard S. Straw Jr.
Epping -- Richard Sherbut Straw Jr. of Dow Farm, Epping, died Monday, Oct. 7, 2013, at Exeter Hospital after a long illness.
He was born on Nov. 22, 1935, in Melrose, Mass., son of Richard Sherbut Straw Sr. and Katherine (Dow) Straw. He was a graduate of Saugus (Mass.) High School and attended the University of Massachusetts, Clark University, Worcester, Mass., and received an associate degree in diesel-mechanical engineering at Wentworth Institute, Boston.
He received an honorable discharge from the US. Air National Guard of Massachusetts in 1955, the U.S. Air Force in June 1958, and U.S. Army in 1962.
He was employed at Terry Corp. Division of Ingersoll-Rand, Windsor, Conn., as a senior sales engineer in its New York regional sales office from 1961 to 1987, where he lived in Summit, N.J. He and his wife retired to his family's home in Epping, enjoying the countryside and wildlife. He liked gardening and taking long walks with his dog to Dow Pond. He was always pleased to share his land with others, especially the Boy Scouts for camping.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Lois, and several cousins.
services: Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2013, from 2 to 4 p.m. at Brewitt Funeral Home, 9 Pleasant St., Epping. A celebration of life will be held at Dow Pond by invitation.
