General Notes:
Based on his date of birth and the fact that his son William said his father was born in "Lyme" Maine leads me to believe he was a s/o John and Dorothy _____ Straw. In the 1820 census of Lyman, ME the John and Dorothy Straw household had a male born 1810-1820 that I believe may be this son John. I will leave him in place here unless I find documentation to prove otherwise.
1850 Wilton, Hillsborough County, NH [living with Brooks and Olive [Blanchard] Bales and others in a boarding house; Brooks is a blacksmith [born NH as is his wife Olive]

census 1860 Suffolk MA shows a John Straw born c1820 but not living with Ellen or William who are living in Ward 3 Manchester, Hillsborough County. The HOH appears to be Annie Richardson born Maine and 2 other females: Carra Horny with a 1 yr old son and Jeanette Shelly.
His son Wm claims in 1910 census that his father was born in Lyme [Could this be Lyman, Maine; also parts of Maine were once MA) and his mother Canada East (once some parts were of Vermont)

8 Jan 1862 - Mr. John Straw was found in the canal in Manchester on Saturday. He had been missing since December 26th. He was a married man, 44 years of age.

11 Jan 1862 - The body of John Straw was found in the canal at Manchester when the water was drawn off on the 4th. He had been missing since Christmas and probably fell into the canal when intoxicated as a bottle of rum was found in his pocket.
