Mathias Parson, Jr was born in New Jersey to Mathias Parson, Sr. and Mercy "Massa' Shaw. He grew up in Ohio (primarily in Montgomery county). He had an older brother, John, and three older sisters, Abigail (Mrs. George Harter), Phebe (Mrs. Reynolds Wright), and Mary (Mrs. Robert Johnson). Mathias Jr. married Jane Hillman in Ohio around 1820, possibly in Montgomery county. They had five children - Samuel, Rachel, John, William and Joel. Jane passed away prior to 1833, possibly in Indiana......

"After years of research and correspondence, I have found a great deal of information about Mathias Parson, his children (by both wives), and his 2nd wife Jemima Henderson Penwell. But I am still at a dead end when it comes to his first wife Jane Hillman. Both Mathias and Jane were born in New Jersey, Mathias in 1795 and Jane between 1795 and 1803. Matthias' parents (Matthias and Mercy *Shaw* Parson) married and baptized several of the older children in New Providence, Union, New Jersey. Matthias & Mercy migrated to the Passaic Valley in Ohio, and then on to Tippecanoe, Indiana where they died in 1833 and 1835 respectively. There are many Hillman families in New Jersey, Ohio, and Indiana...but I have been unable to determine which of them may have been Jane's family, and in which of the three states she and Matthias Jr married. They would have married about 1815 or slightly before. Since Matthias remarried in 1833, and his and Jane's last child Rachel was born in 1831 in Indiana, I'm presuming Jane may have died between 1831 and 1833."

Jane married Mathias Parson circa 1820 in Montgomery County, Ohio. (Mathias Parson was born on 13 Mar 1795 in New Providence, Union County, New Jersey, died on 6 Feb 1878 in Hale, McLeod County, Minnesota and was buried in Oakland Cemetery in Hutchinson, McLeod County, Minnesota.)
